Ring Size Guide: How to Measure Ring Size
Ring size is best treated as a measurement, not a guess. Finger size can change slightly with temperature, time of day and activity, so take more than one measurement when possible. The final reference is always the size information shown on the individual product page.
Method 1: measure a ring that already fits
- Choose a ring worn comfortably on the intended finger.
- Place it flat on a ruler and measure the inside diameter only, from inner edge to inner edge.
- Record the measurement in millimetres.
- Compare it with the product’s listed size and fit notes.
Do not measure the outside of the band: the metal thickness changes that number and can make the result misleading.
Method 2: measure your finger
- Wrap a narrow strip of paper or a non-stretch string around the base of the intended finger.
- Mark the point where it meets without pulling tight.
- Lay it flat against a ruler and record the circumference in millimetres.
- Measure again at a different time of day. If your knuckle is noticeably wider than the base of the finger, take that into account before selecting a fixed size.
Approximate inside-diameter reference
This table is a general reference for common US ring sizes. It is not a substitute for the exact size and construction shown on an individual product page.
| Inside diameter (approx.) | Common US size (approx.) |
|---|---|
| 15.7 mm | 5 |
| 16.5 mm | 6 |
| 17.3 mm | 7 |
| 18.1 mm | 8 |
| 18.9 mm | 9 |
Adjustable open rings and fixed-size rings
An adjustable open ring can offer a limited range of flexibility, but it should not be forced far beyond its intended shape or repeatedly opened and closed. Read the product’s Size, Adjustable and Fit Notes fields before ordering. For a fixed-size ring, choose only from the sizes listed for that design and use the product page as the final authority.
Choose the right time to measure
- Measure when your hands are at a comfortable, normal temperature.
- Avoid taking your only measurement immediately after exercise, in very cold conditions or when fingers feel swollen.
- Measure more than once if the ring will be worn every day.
- When in doubt between fixed sizes, ask before ordering rather than relying on a generic chart.
Before you order
Confirm the exact product size, whether the ring is adjustable, and any fit note supplied for that design. If the stated measurement does not answer your question, contact us with the product name and your measurement before ordering.
